The Bristol Histopathology Inquiry

In June 2009, Dr Phil Hammond, GP, comic, writer and broadcaster exposed allegations of pathology misdiagnoses at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in his Private Eye column. Medical Directors, Senior Doctors and NHS Managers had known about them for years and not taken them seriously. University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust hurriedly commissioned an Inquiry.

Much has already been written about the background to the Inquiry and the public concerns about its conduct and outcome, so we do not intend to go into details here.

These are good sources of background information, thanks to the sterling work of Phil Hammond, Investigative Journalist Andrew Bousfield and Andy Cowper, Editor of Health Policy Insight.
